Porta Fortuna kicked off her 3-year-old season with a the G1 English 1000 Guineas. This is an English Classic race and would be arguably the most prestigious race at a mile for 3-year-old fillies in Europe.
Porta Fortuna was such a consistent performer in her two-year-old season having not finished any lower than third in her 6 graded stakes starts. "I was delighted with how she ran at Newmarket. She ran an absolute belter and we had no excuses. Everything went according to plan. She probably didn't get the credit she deserved for all she did last year, and it was nice to see she has trained on and ran so well on her first start at three." (Donnacha O'Brien, The Racing Post)
Taking that step forward from two-year-old season to three-year-old season can be a struggle for some. Porta proved on Sunday that she can definitely compete at the top level this term. “We’ll take her back and see how she is, but the options are either go to the Curragh for the Irish Guineas or go straight to Royal Ascot. I’d imagine Ascot is going to be one of the main targets for her, whether we take in the Curragh on the way we’re not sure yet. I think it will be the Coronation Stakes at Ascot, Tom was happy that she got the mile well.” said trainer Donnacha after her performance on Sunday.
Regardless of where Porta ends up next, it's going to be a very exciting year for Medallion Racing!
