Medallion had two runners in incredibly difficult races today, and they both ran great. The day started with MOTION EMOTION in the G2 Fleur de Lis. This race had arguably the best dirt horse in training, Midnight Bisou, and last years Kentucky Oaks winner, Serengeti Empress. Motion Emotion broke well and sat a few lengths off Serengeti Empress throughout the backside. She moved up with Midnight Bisou on the far turn, and while she couldn’t match strides with that mare, she battled to defeat Serengeti Empress and ran 2nd. This was her first G2 placing, and might be the best start of her career. She had been training great leading up to the race, but this performance surpassed our expectations.
We capped off the day with another 2nd. This time it was Beau Recall running against 2 Breeders’ Cup champions in the G1 Just a Game at Belmont. Beau Recall had to check slightly at the start, which ended up costing her a few lengths. She settled at the rear of the field, and started to make some headway rounding the far turn. She unleashed her usual powerful kick to rally and finish 2nd. She out kicked BC Mile winner Uni, which was very impressive, considering Uni entered the stretch about 2 lengths to the good of Beau, while saving all the ground. Beau Recall is an incredibly honest mare who gives you everything she has, every start.
