Applecross ran a career best 85 beyer when finishing 5th in the Lady of Shamrock Stakes, beaten 1.75 lengths for the win. Applecross has been a little unlucky with a few minor issues this year, and it was nice to have her back for her 2nd race in two months.
Applecross broke well before settling in 7th position early. She eased out on the far turn before commencing her run. She had to shift out when the 8 pushed her way out, and ending up slowly gaining into 5th at the line. The turf course on Saturday played heavily towards speed horses, with 3 of the last 4 grass races being won in gate to wire fashion. The other grass race was won by the heavy favorite who sat in 2nd off a 10-1 shot, and barely collared that horse for the win. This track profile worked against Applecross.
Applecross came out of the race in good shape, and has a lot of different options heading into the new year. We can drop her back into a first level allowance for a confidence booster, or continue on the path to add more blacktype to her resume.
