Applecross worked in company with G2 winner Neptune’s Storm on Sunday at Del Mar. She went 4F on the grass in 48.20, which was the 3rd fastest of 13 turf works at the distance. Applecross seems to be a different filly now that we have gotten her down to Del Mar and she can work on the grass.
The G2 San Clemente will be a very tough ask for Applecross off a 9 month layoff, but she is training very well, and was very competitive with the 3 favorites as a two year old. We have Drayden van Dyke booked to ride, and she will break from the outside post of 11.
Horses that lost ground around the turns had a very tough time at Del Mar on opening weekend. The temporary rails were up on opening weekend, which probably caused this. The rails should be down, and hopefully Drayden can work out a good trip from the far outside.
