Sassy Sienna ran a very good 2nd in the G3 Monmouth Oaks.
Sassy Sienna broke well from the outside, but there was a lot of speed to her inside. Paco Lopez ended up having to back off the speed, and was 4 wide on the turn. He ended up taking her back to 6th, which I think was his only real option in the race. She started to make up a little ground on the backside, until she had worked her way up into 4th on the far turn. She had to be pushed very wide on the far turn, and entered the stretch in 3rd place. She put in a good run down the stretch, but could not catch the winner, who got a perfect ground saving trip in 2nd the whole way.
Sassy Sienna ran a 9.75 Ragozin, which was the best number of her life in this race. She came out of the race in good shape, and already shipped back to Churchill. We weren’t sure why she ran so poorly in Iowa, but obviously she can handle shipping. We sent her to Monmouth a little earlier, which could have helped her settle.
We will give her a few weeks before deciding on her next start.
