Sassy Sienna ran a strong 6th place finish in the Kentucky Oaks.
We drew the inside post, which forced Gary to be forwardly placed. She broke well, and was slightly ahead of the field early. She looked like she might settle into 3rd or 4th, but Gary gave her the best chance by holding his position on the rail, which put her into 2nd. She traveled well, and even took the lead briefly heading into the far turn. As they entered the stretch she was in 2nd, and couldn’t quicken with a few of the closers. She tried hard all the way to the wire, she is an honest filly who gives it her best every time.
She came out of the race in good shape, and we are going to give her a little time before picking out her next start. After talking with Brad, he thinks we could keep her at Churchill and point to a couple of races in the Midwest, either in Iowa or Indiana. There are a couple of G3’s with $200,000 purses that we could target. There will also be some graded stakes races on the grass that we could try to run in. They have always thought she might be better on the grass, but she was good enough on the dirt to try the Oaks trail, which obviously worked.
We will keep everyone posted on what is next for Sassy Sienna as we get a little closer to her next start.
